Hey-O! This is Nick again, its been 3 years since the last update. Im bored, so I found the website and decided to write in it. I cannot believe that i still remember the password. I have just started playing with a Band with two more ATOs from Rose and Brad Herman, who is a fiji at rose. We played ATOs biggest party, South of the Border, and rocked the shit under the name the 1985 Chicago Bears, a tribute to the last performance I played in Fort Wayne. It was kick ass. Sam and Gene are off doing stuff. If you want to hear some music from nick, email me at zeechenj@orse-hulman.edu. HOLLLLLLA!. |

Well, this is Nick with the first news update in over a year. We have all moved on from the good old days of the asian gang. I am at rose hulman studying Biomedical Engineering and doing football, Sam is at Hope College (?) studying music, and Gene is at Duke doing what asian kids do best, becoming a docter. Dont expect any albums for a while, but it was fun while it lasted. |

Hoohah! This is Sam! Just here to tell you we had a practice on Saturday, albeit a very unproductive one. We jammed a bit on song and then went to see a movie. Doubletake is a very strange movie. Good bye! |

Hey. Today we have band practice. Gonna jam! Gonna write some new songs! Gonna record! Gonna rock... |

Valete, spectatores! Quid agis? Agebamus multas res... First, I (Sam) have been messing with mixing "the River", although it's not completed yet. It makes the song much more powerful if the composition of the song changes. Instruments drop out and come in; fade in and out; pan left and right... everything sounds great. The production makes the song even more powerful than it was before. We haven't been able to record anything new. I'm grounded because I was out too late one night. But after this weekend I'm free. But "free" only means I have the priveledge to go out. I'm very occupied with my role in playing guitar in the band for the school play "Footloose". Lot's of practices. That will be over in 3 weeks, then I'll TRULY be free. I'm hoping we'll have the album out by the end of the year... Check out the new pictures taken this year! I updated the pictures page with two new "logs". You guys have it good... |

Hello! Today we were added to the local site http://www.fortwaynemusic.com, a site which hosts small little mini-sites for local bands. And since we are the Asian Gang, we are very near the top of the list! Good publicity. A link to this site is on there, so I'll link to that location as well: http://www.fortwaynemusic.com/content/bands/theasiangang/ Hot stuff! Anyway, the Gang still hasn't been able to have a real recording session, and most likely will not be able to until after Spring Break, which is next week. Sorry to keep you waiting, but this sort of stuff takes time. Sit tight! The next album is on it's way... |

The Asian Gang makes it's TRIUMPHANT return!! Yesterday we finally had band practice after a long hiatus. We began writing a new song! No title yet. It's a goofy song, sorta sounds like late-80's Flaming Lips. Features acoustic guitar, painful vocals, djembe, drums, timpany, theremin, chimes, electric slide guitar, and who knows what... we've got 16 tracks to throw around. Nick and I are recording today. Gene is unable to come because he's going (I think) on a college visit. Perhaps we'll write a new song on top of the other. Hopefully there will be pictures. This new albums going to be DIFFERENT. I hope you all like it. |

Hey, this is Sam. We performed at our school's Variety show tonight. Very eventful. First, the folks up in the booth forgot to raise the movie screen (they had been playing a short film before us) and forgot to turn on the stage lights. But we though nothing of it, only to realize during Tom's countoff that we couldn't see our instruments. The first 8 or so bars were hideous. Sam was playing completely off-key. However, Tom dropped out, stood up, and yelled "Could we get some lights?" The lights came on, and the song went on nearly perfectly. Sam mixed up the lyrics, singing the third verse second, the second verse third, and replacing the second chorus with the third chorus, which was also sung after the third verse, which was played second. Oh well... It sounded okay. It's all on professional video, amatuer camcorder video, and Sam rigged up the 16 track and recorded the audio. Sounds great. Probably going to be on the next album (along with the false start). Good night all. |

Hello, friends. This is Nick for the first time on the news of the Asian Gang. We have found that our variety show act is a bit too long, so we must cut out Lazy Boy. However, we have decided to add an extra verse onto Red Pavement. It is awesome. Totally nice. The verse will be add to the song information page shortly. The bad news is that the darn Bucs won the Super Bowl over the Raiders. But jolly to everyone! Have a Good Mind! |

Hey, freaks. Sam here, telling you that the Asian Gang will be performing at this year's Homestead High School Annual Variety Show! We'll be playing both songs we submitted (see previous entry) and I will also be doing a solo song on pianer right before. Things are looking up for us, at the moment.
We have not been able to start recording the next album because of time conflicts and the fact that I loaned the 16 track to another band at our school, 12 and 2, because theirs BROKE. 12 and 2 are a good band that I expect are going places, so I figured they deserved to borrow it for the time their 16 track (which is identical to ours) is being fixed. I have been writing a lot of songs and listening to a LOT of new (and old) crap that might leak through into the next Asian Gang album. Some bands I HIGHLY recommend are (in absolutely no order whatsoever): cLOUDDEAD The Boredoms Godspeed You Black Emperor! The Flaming Lips Fly Pan Am Can Todd Rundgren Miles Davis Erik Satie (this guy ROCKS, in a classical sort of way...) The Talking Heads Bonnie Prince Billy Neil Young and I'm probably going to be listening to MUCH more music in the future. Things are looking up. On a sadder note, I express my extreme sadness and condolences to those who were involved with and affected by the explosion of the Columbia Space Shuttle. I especially express my sympathy to the state of Israel, who lost a national hero in the blast. May this tragedy not mark the beginning of a decline in space exploration, but as a catylist to a new sense of pride in the human race. God bless. |

Hello, Mr./Mrs./Ms. Fan. How are you? I'm just here to tell you that the Asian Gang might be performing at this year's Homestead Variety Show. We're submitting a recording with a shorter version of Lazy Boy and Red Pavement to Herr Direktor and will be crossing our fingers. (maybe we'll record the audio and put it up on the web...) Gene will not be performing with us, as he is a total loser and is afraid he'll mess up. Instead, we have the amazing Tom Stoffel featured on the DRUMBOS. Perhaps we'll dress him up in a shirt that says, "I'm Gene." This are still on the sketchboard. Sam will also be trying out a solo piano/vocal act. Things are looking up! |

Sorry for not updating for a while. Nothing much going on. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This year I (Sam) got a 16 track digital recorder. This means you can expect better sounding songs and probably better songs altogether, as we will have more tracks to experiment and develop songs further than before. This rocks! Stay safe over this holiday break folks. |

Hey. Nothing much going on right now. We're sort of waiting for Christmas when Sam gets his 16 track recorder thing. But I'd like to inform you that the song "Chicken in My Brain" has been removed from the playlist at mp3.com. If you really want to hear it, email me at TheAsianGang@hotmail.com and I'll try to send it to you personally. We take care of our fans, yes? AH! |

Hey AsianFolk! I just wanted to say that I put some songs up on Mp3.com earlier this week, and they'll probably be public this week. These are the songs: 47 Hours of Darkness (Sucks), Farewell, Lazy Boy, and an unreleased song from late 2001 called Grand Theft Automobile! You fans are lucklucky. Grand Theft Automobile is going to be available to DOWNLOAD! I figured that would be the best way, since it's 11 minutes long. Have a good week! |

Do I have a life? No! I have the internet! Just updated the site again. Gene finally wrote a bio, as short as it is. And I also put pictures up next to the bios. Am I getting into this a little too much? Tell me at TheAsianGang@hotmail.com. I like input. |

Wow. It's pretty late. I just wanted to tell you all that the DISKO page has now been updated with all the lyrics and song info from the new album! It's a really good time, just leaf through your favorite songs' entries to see how they were conceived, how they were recorded, and other fun facts. The new album is totally rocking up the charts! We've already sold 10 copies (and only 10 because that's all I made the first day!), and we have A LOT of people who say they'll buy it on Monday, which is the next day we have school due to a teacher in-service thing. That's why I'm up so late.
I'm very excited about this CD. But there are a few errors I need to make sure the public is informed about: 1) On the credits, it says that Sam Adams plays the Ukelele. Well Sam, I hate to break it to you, but there is no such instrument called the Ukelele. It's UKULELE YOU IDIOT!!! When will you learn that "spell check" is essential before the release of an album?! 2) The songs on the CD are mixed very poorly. I apologize to anyone who suffers premature hearing loss due to their turning up some songs and turning down others. But it was never really intended to be "pro quality", so it's not really an issue. 3) The band's website has not appeared on the last 9 copies that have been sold. It only appeared on the 10th because Sam scratched it out with pen on the inside cover before selling it to the guy who bought it. This means that no one will know of the wonder that the website has to offer! This is a fine website and it must get the reckognition it deserves. So as you can see, the next "pressing" of CDs will have minor changes in features. All cosmetic, but all fairly important. We're just lucky that most of the albums with the misspelled word did not have the website. That means most people won't even know it's the wrong spelling, because ukulele is not a very common word, sadly enough. Welp! |

Nick and Sam recently got together for an English project. What resulted from this encounter was a song about the novel "Slaughterhouse-5" that WILL be on the album. The album is nearly complete, it only needs an intro. The intro will be simple and wierd. Nick's hand is almost healed. It's healed enough for him to play bass again, and he plays bass and drums on the new song (called "Unstuck From Time"). The new song is almost reggae, but it's got a lot of rock elements in it. Gene hasn't been able to have practice because of marching band. State competition for marching band is this Saturday, and I'm pretty sure that marks the end of band season. This means we will be able to practice. Expect the album to be out early to mid-November. Great Christmas Present! |

Hmmmm... The Asian Gang is in a real pickle right now. Nothing has been done for this entire month. Nick got his hand nearly broken in football and Gene is in band. I, Sam, am very bored. The closest thing to a song we've "written" is a song with truly random chords, written by Chance, itself. The time signitures, songs structures, and chords were assigned to numbers and I used a random integer function on my calculator to "write." We'll see what it sounds like, won't we? If it's not good enough for the album, I might just put it as background music for the site... maybe even the news section. Of course, music on websites is always REALLY annoying, especially when you're trying to listen to other music. Maybe just a download. Or you have to e-mail us for a copy.. I dunno. We'll see. Nick and I ARE writing a song for a project, though. It's called "Unstuck from Time" and it's about Slaughterhouse-5. Very good. We'll see how it turns out, won't we? Goodbye! |

Hey, all you fans out there!! Here's the periodical update that I've been slacking off on... or have I? The truth is, not much has been happening lately with the band, partially because Gene got in trouble with his parents and can't drive his car over to Nick's house anymore. But that's okay. We've been able to do some other stuff that's cool.
For starters, there's some new music up at the http://www.mp3.com/asiangang site.. 47 Hours of Darkness (sucks), Farewell, and Red Pavement! WOW!! Go and listen, cause those and Lazy Boy are our best songs yet! Nick and Sam got together this evening and completed the album version of Against All Odds.. much better than before. It's a little more interesting, it's got trippy psychedelic guitar in the background. NEAT! Sam also recorded a synth version of Nick's song "Total" that will most likely be on the album. VERY cool.. grooving! We've been discussing what else we can do with Total. Sam programmed the notes into his cell phone, so it plays the song whenever he gets a call. There is also talk about a "Total EP" with many different versions of the song... Perhaps it's all fun and games, but we may have something here.. In other news, Sam and Nick made Asian Gang shirts and have been wearing them around school. The word on the Asian Gang is getting out, and many people have even asked for their own shirts! We expect quite a bit of sales once we release the album. The demand is high and the opportunity cost is low!! The first full length Asian Gang release is on it's way!! |

Last night the band got together at about 8 oclock and started playing. Gene was not in the highest spirits because he didn't have such a good time at band practice. He wasn't able to play to his full potential because he had been yelled at the entire day. So Gene left at 10 and for the next hour Nick and Sam went upstairs to the computer and started jiving around on Cakewalk. They started to do a looping song, where it loops over and over.. sort of like a techno song. After 4 measures the song sounded awesome. Sam has in mind possibly a guitar solo and vocals over the music in the future. It might be on the upcoming album.. The band is getting together tonight.. hopefully Gene will feel more up to recording. |

Hey all. Just doing the necessary update. Sorry it took so long. Not much musical activity going on this month on account of Nick having football practice every day but Sunday, Gene having marching band practice every day but Sunday, and me having to work on Sunday... how wonderful. BUT I have managed to do some things during this time that benefit the band.
Today I finally made the final mix of Farewell and put it onto the computer. It might be up on our audio site pretty soon. Sounds great. Also I finally uploaded 47 Hours of Darkness (Sucks) and Lazy Boy to the audio site. They have to go through a verification process, so they'll be up later this week or next week. Good news! Back in October of last year the band had five songs featured on a compilation disc called "Super Rocket Studio Sampler Volume 1". The album, which had been out of print for a better part of the year is now being made available on the internet! Yes! Mp3.com gives artist like you and me the ability to upload songs, figure out the tracklisting, make and submit artwork, and have an album! The album will cost a measly 8 bucks and will feature the 10 songs that were originally on the album. It also features a normal sized jewel case with professionally printed artwork, lyrics, and pictures! I don't know about you.. but I'M buying a couple myself! Tell your friends! Tell your family! The address is http://www.mp3.com/SuperRocket. The album might not be made available until later this week, but stay on the look out! This is a hot item! Well. School starts tomorrow, and that brings good and bad things. Now that school is starting, we'll be able to meet more days and will get the album recorded faster. Also the drama will give us more things to write about. We'll get to see old friends, new friends, and people who we don't care for ALL over again. Happy happy happy. See you soon. |

Hi. The band just got finished with recording the final version of Red Pavement. We rerecorded it because Nick and I (Sam) both felt we didn't perform our best. So we did that and I mixed it onto my computer along with the album version of Multa et Fatua. I also remixed "Lazy Boy", the untitled song from the last entry. Gene came up with the title, cos its sung twice in the song. Simple. Sounds better than the first mix, the second guitar part was buried underneath the rest of the band and the vocals were to loud. Multa et Fatua sounds great. I regret to say that it looks like the album will be out later than we expected. It will probably be out sometime between the first day of school (August 21) and the beginning of Winter Break (December 21). Maybe around Thanksgiving or Halloween.. I DON'T regret to say that we have updated the Pictures part of this site. Seven NEW pictures taken by Nick's digital camera. Check it out! |

Hey there, fans! Last night the band got together and did a few things you should know. First I (Sam) came to Nick's house early and worked on the new Pictures page. It's on a different server, cause it's going to be big. So far we have 4 pictures up, and there are many more coming.
When Gene came over we got to playing music. We wrote a new song that is untitled as of now. It's a very laid back number.. lots of wah guitar. It's about a guy who throws a party. The entire band is very excited about this one. Nick and I got our bios up and running, now all we have to do is put Gene's up and the pictures. The site is looking good ever since I started using tables. Although, there must be another way.. |
Entry #0003 - July 28, 2002 11:45 PM - |
Tonight the band met and did a number of cool things. First thing first, Nick showed us his new digital camera. This thing is AWESOME! Not only does it take pictures with better resolution than normal cameras, it records video and audio. So we recorded ourselves recording the two songs we did tonight.. That's right! Two songs recorded. First we rerecorded Multa et Fatua with my good mike. Much cleaner and nicer. I think it's a little faster too.
Then we decided to resurrect a song we thought was lost called "Red Pavement". Nick and I had recorded a demo of it after Gene had left one night earlier this year. The demo was utter crap. The playing was crap and the singing was crappier. I had no sense of melody and you could barely understand the words. We just figured we could record the song the next time we met, right? WRONG! Nick lost the lyrics sheet at his house somewhere (or maybe I lost it..) and we had no clue what I was saying. So we put the song on hold until we could find the lyrics sheet again. Well, tonight we decided we needed the song on the album. So I got the tape out, stuck it in the four-track, and tried to interpret the lyrics. I miraculously could make out about 98 percent of the words and had no problem filling in the blanks. We only recorded the drums, bass, and guitar tonight, but we will be adding more.. vocals, lead guitar, maybe even a piano. As for the videos we recorded, they look pretty cool. The one of Red Pavement is the best quality, but it's a huge video file, 29 megs. Nick and I both think it would be a good idea to make it available to you fine people, but we don't know how we'll pull it off. Stay tuned for some great multimedia! We're hoping to be able to meet tomorrow night and finish Red Pavement, maybe write more songs. See you soon! |
Entry #0002 - July 28, 2002 1:09 AM - |
Yo! Sam again. I'm just doing some late night page making and I thought I could fill you in with some of the things that are going on. I changed the diskography page because it was absolutely driving me insane. It looked like crap. So I used tables and everything was cool. As a matter of fact, I'm going to use tables and give the entire site a facelift. It looks like the first site I ever made, which was a piece of crap.
Finished recording Farewell. Very cool. Not boring any more at all. Nick and Gene have been gone on vacation all week and just got back today, so no new songs have arisen. But I have been writing some music and I showed two chord progressions to Nick at 10 earlier tonight. He seemed to like them, the first being a slow fingerpicking song, the second a riff-based guitar rockah! Maybe we'll get together later during the day. But it's getting really late and I'm tired. No more webpaging for me tonight! Good night everyone! |

Hey! This is Sam here from the Asian Gang! Welcome to the site! I hope you are enjoying what little content is up so far. We've got the Diskography up, the skeleton of the Bios page, the audio samples up, the links page is operational, the message board, and I'm going to be starting on the picts page right after this entry. The Asian Gang are at full throttle as of this moment. We writing and recording brand new songs (good and bad) every week. I'm hoping we can get the album out at the end of the summer. Gene has band camp for marching band, which will occupy his entire life for the first half of the school year. The song we are currently working on is called "Farewell". It's a departure for us, because it's a very slow song. It's also longer than most of our songs, clocking in at a whopping four and a half minutes. It's original form was very boring, but improved greatly once the synthesizers were added. I'm very confident that it will be a cool song. |
